News: TDF scheme playing a crucial role in promoting ‘Aatmanirbharta’ in defence; Start-ups & MSMEs being encouraged to enhance capabilities in cutting-edge technology

Technology Development Fund (TDF) Scheme - Key Points

Ø  Encourages participation of public/private industries, start-ups, and MSMEs.

Ø  Aims to enhance capabilities in cutting-edge technology and promote 'Aatmanirbharta' in defence.

Ø  Flagship program of Ministry of Defence, executed by DRDO under 'Make in India'.

Status:

§  77 projects sanctioned, totaling over Rs 300 crore.

§  27 defence technologies successfully developed.

Objectives:

1.      Provide Grant in Aid to Indian industries (MSMEs, start-ups) and academic/scientific institutions for developing defence and dual-use technologies.

2.      Engage private industries, especially MSMEs and start-ups, in Military Technology Design & Development with Grant in Aid support.

3.      Focus on Research, Design & Development of Niche technologies developed for the first time in India.

4.      Create a bridge between Armed Forces, research organisations, academia, certifying agencies, and private sector entities.
