Current relevance:
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has facilitated the selection of three Sanchar Mitras from India as International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Generation Connect Youth Envoys (GCYE) for 2026–2030, recognising the growing participation of Indian youth in shaping the global digital future.
Highlights:
Generation Connect Youth Envoys
Programme:
i.
The
three selected Sanchar Mitras form part of the third cohort of ITU
Generation Connect Youth Envoys for 2026–2030.
ii.
The
programme enables young people to contribute to national, regional and
global discussions and initiatives.
iii.
Its
focus areas include Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs),
digital transformation and inclusive digital development.
iv.
The
programme provides a platform for greater youth participation in global
conversations on technology and connectivity.
Selected Youth Envoys from India:
The three Sanchar Mitras selected
are:

Ankit
Kumar Pal – Delhi
2.
Manish
Kumar Mandal – Bengaluru
3.
Susmita
Sain – Guwahati
They
were recognised for their contribution under the Sanchar Mitra Scheme of the
Department of
Telecommunications.
About Sanchar Mitra Scheme:
i.
Implemented
by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).
ii.
Envisions
engaging Yuva Shakti as catalysts for digital empowerment and
societal outreach.
iii.
Sanchar
Mitras conduct awareness programmes in communities, educational institutions
and public spaces.
iv.
Major
areas include citizen-centric telecom services, prevention of telecom fraud,
mobile security, digital safety and responsible telecom usage.
v.
It
is open to students from participating technical institutions with programmes
in telecom, electronics, computers, cybersecurity or related fields.
Implementation & Global Exposure:
i.
The
scheme has been implemented across all States and Union Territories
through the LSA field offices of DoT.
ii.
It
provides selected Sanchar Mitras exposure to national and international
telecom platforms, including the ITU.
iii.
Candidates
for the GCYE programme were identified based on engagement in areas such as digital
inclusion, ICT education and skills, research, innovation, entrepreneurship and
community-level ICT initiatives.
