Current relevance:

The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has invited feasibility proposals for a private-sector-led “Green AI/Data Centre Vertical”, with Campbell Bay in Great Nicobar identified as one of the potential locations.



Continent:                                                               

1.        Great Nicobar Island is part of the Nicobar group of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, a Union Territory of India.

2.      It lies in Asia, in the southeastern part of the Bay of Bengal.

3.      Indira Point, located on Great Nicobar, is the southernmost point of India.


Nearby Countries:

As an Indian island, Great Nicobar does not share a land border with another country. The important nearby countries to locate are Indonesia to the south/southeast, Thailand to the east/northeast and Myanmar farther north/northeast.


Significance:

1.       Great Nicobar Island lies between the Bay of Bengal to the west and the Andaman Sea to the east.

2.      The Great Channel separates Great Nicobar from Sumatra in Indonesia to its south.

3.      The island lies close to the strategically important Malacca Strait, one of the world’s major maritime trade routes.

4.      Campbell Bay is an important settlement and strategic location on Great Nicobar Island.

5.      The island is home to the Great Nicobar Biosphere Reserve, highlighting its significant ecological and biodiversity value.
