News: India, Japan launch $600 million fund for environment projects

 

What's in the news?

       India's National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) and Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) jointly launched a $600 million fund for climate and environment projects.

 

India-Japan Fund:

       India’s quasi-sovereign wealth fund, the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF), and the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) launched a $600-million fund to invest in sustainability projects.

 

Features:

       JBIC will contribute 51 percent of that figure, and India the rest, the Indian government.

       The India-Japan Fund will target investment in sustainable projects in areas such as renewable energy, e-mobility, waste management, and low carbon emission.

       It aims to be a ‘partner of choice’ in order to increase Japanese investments in India.

       The establishment of the India-Japan Fund marks a significant milestone in the strategic and economic partnership between the governments of Japan and India.
