ASI finds Ganesh, Brahma, Narasimha images at Bhojshala complex

 

Location: Situated in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh, India.

 

Historical Background

 

  • Built in the early 11th century by King Bhoja of the Paramara dynasty.
  • Initially served as a temple dedicated to Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of learning.

 

Architectural Features

  • Design and Structure: Intricate architectural design with ornate pillars, carved panels, and inscriptions.
  • Key Components: Central hall and surrounding structures used for educational purposes.

 

Religious Importance

  • Dual Significance: Holds significance for both Hindus and Muslims.
  • Current Use: Managed by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI); designated days for Hindu worship (Tuesday) and Muslim prayers (Friday).

 

Inscriptions and Artifacts

§  The Gurjara-Pratiharas came to prominence in the second quarter of the 8th century, when they offered successful resistance to the Arabs during the time of Nagabhata I.

§  Bhoja was the Pratihara dynasty's greatest emperor and the actual founder of the empire.

§  The Pratiharas who ruled over Kannauj for a longtime are also called Gurjara- Pratiharas.
