1. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin declared
that the Iron Age began in Tamil Nadu & released a book titled ‘Irumpin
Thonmai’.

 

2. The Central Government announced
that it would cancel the bidding for the construction of a tungsten mine in
Aritapatti, Madurai district.

 

3. Evidence was obtained from the
Iron Age pits at Mangadu (Salem), Kilnamandi (Thiruvannamalai), Mayiladumparai
(Krishnagiri), Adichanallur, and Sivakali (Thoothukudi) in Tamil Nadu.

 

4. Excavation pits at Mayiladumparai
in Krishnagiri district confirmed that iron was used in Tamil Nadu in 2172 BC.

 

5. Iron swords, knives, spears,
arrowheads, three-pronged spears, etc. found at Adichanallur, Thoothukudi
district, date the use of iron in Tamil Nadu to the middle of 3,000 BC.

 

6. Another archaeological site in
Thoothukudi district, Sivakali, is an Iron Age settlement. The book states that
more than 85 iron objects found there, including knives, arrowheads, rings,
chisels, axes, and swords, inside and outside the ancient tombs, can be traced
back to at least 3,300 BC.
