1. INS Arighaat’s
commissioning on August 29, 2024, marks a significant boost to India’s nuclear
deterrence and maritime defence capabilities.The advanced submarine strengthens
India’s nuclear triad and aligns with the government’s push for self-reliance
in defence, showcasing technological progress and enhancing strategic balance
in the region.

 

2. During his Bharat Jodo
Nyay Yatra, Leader of Oposition practiced Jiu-Jitsu daily, emphasizing its
non-violent aspects and introducing young participants to the values of martial
arts as tools for building a compassionate and safer society.Jiu-Jitsu, also
known as Jujutsu, is a Japanese martial art that dates back to the late 16th
century.It was developed by the samurai, Japan’s warrior class, to defend
themselves in situations where they lost their weapons during battle.

 

3. A deep depression
currently situated over Saurashtra and Kachchh regions of Gujarat is expected
to intensify into a cyclonic storm (Cyclone Asna). Cyclone Asna would
be the first cyclone to form in August in the North Indian Ocean (NIO)
region since 1981 and the first in the Arabian Sea since 1976.

 

4. The government
launched a centralised platform ‘SHe-Box portal’, designed to make workplaces
safer for women by addressing and managing complaints of sexual harassment.

 

5. The Supreme Court's
recent decision to grant bail to first-time offenders and others based on the
new Section 479 of the BharatiyaNagarik Suraksha Sanhita
(BNSS) has garnered significant attention. This measure aims to address
the overcrowding in Indian prisons, where over 75% of inmates were
undertrial prisoners as of 2022.
