METROLOGY (PACKAGED COMMODITIES) RULES 2011 - ECONOMY

 

Why in news?

 

 The Department of Consumers Affairs decided to amend the legal Metrology (Packaged commodities) Rules 2011. (on retail selling) 



  • In order to protect consumer rights and raise consumer awareness, it is necessary to mandate the mandatory declaration of packing details on bulk packaged goods ( i.e above 25 kgs or 25 litres) 
  • Applies to - producers, sellers, manufacturers and importers of packaged commodities (bulk) 
  • Exemption - Institutional / Industrial consumers, Agricultural farm produces, Fertilizers, Cement
