WHAT’S IN THE NEWS ?
Krishi-Decision Support System
(Krishi-DSS):
- Type: Geo-spatial platform.
- Developed
by: Ministry of Agriculture and Department of
Space.
- Objective:
Support comprehensive agricultural management.
Key Features:
- Crop Mapping and Monitoring: Analyzes
cropping patterns and promotes sustainable agriculture.
- Drought
Monitoring: Provides real-time data on soil moisture,
water storages, and crop conditions.
- Field
Parcel Segmentation: Identifies unique needs and cropping
patterns for targeted interventions.
- Soil
Information System: Provides details on soil type, pH, and soil
health.
- Data
Library: Offers ground truth data and spectral
libraries for research and industry use.
- Disaster
Management: Assists in flood impact assessment, crop
insurance solutions, and early disaster warnings (e.g., pest attacks,
heavy rain).
Use of Space Technology in
Agriculture:
- Mahalanobis National Crop Forecast Centre:
Operationalizes space technology for crop production forecasting.
- Soil
and Land Use Survey of India: Uses satellite data for
soil resources mapping.
