News: UNFPA project in Rajasthan for gender sensitivity gets support from experts

       A project of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for gender sensitivity in Rajasthan has received support from the experts working for the elimination of customs promoting patriarchy.

       The four-month-long project aims at promoting gender equality and shaping public opinion to end gender-based discrimination.

 

UNFPA:

       UNFPA is the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency.

       It was established as a trust fund in 1967 and began operations in 1969.

       UNFPA is not supported by the UN budget, instead, it is entirely supported by voluntary contributions of donor governments, intergovernmental organizations, the private sector, foundations and individuals.

       UNFPA works directly to tackle Sustainable Development Goals on health (SDG3), education (SDG4) and gender equality (SDG5).

       Its mission is to deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled.

       It promotes gender equality and empower women, girls and young people to take control of their bodies and their futures.

       It works with partners in more than 150 countries to provide access to a wide range of sexual and reproductive health services

       UNFPA work is guided by the principles of a human rights-based approach set in place by 1994 International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), gender empowerment and equality, and the imperative that no one is left behind.

       UNFPA works towards achieving three transformative results that promise to change the world for every woman, man and young person by 2030.

       Ending preventable maternal deaths.

       Ending unmet need for family planning.

       Ending gender-based violence and harmful practices including child marriage and female genital mutilation.
