Recently, Union Home
Minister Amit Shah asked States to prepare a disaster management plan in seven
sites where new nuclear installations are to become operational.

States to prepare a road map in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority.

announced three schemes worth 8000

₹5,000-crore project has been allocated to expand
and modernize fire services in States.

₹2,500-crore project was proposed for the seven most populous metros Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru,
Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Pune to reduce the risk of urban flooding.

₹825-crore National Landslide Risk
Mitigation Scheme had been planned in 17 States and union territories for
landslide mitigation.
National Disaster Management Plan:
About:
It was released in 2016, it is the
first ever national plan prepared in the country for disaster management.

This plan was aligned with the Sendai Framework for
Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, to which India is a signatory.
Four priority themes:

Understanding disaster
risk,
●
Improving disaster risk
governance,
●
Investing in disaster
risk reduction (through structural and non-structural measures).
●
Disaster preparedness.
Act:
●
It was mandated under the Disaster Management Act
2005.
Important provisions:

It covers all phases of
disaster management: prevention,
mitigation, response and recovery.
●
It provides for
horizontal and vertical integration among all the agencies and departments of
the Government.
●
The plan has a regional
approach, which will be beneficial not only for disaster management but also
for development planning.
●
Increase resilience and
prevent the emergence of new disaster risks and reduce the existing risks.
●
Strengthen disaster risk
governance at all levels from local to center.
●
Strengthen scientific and
technical capabilities in all aspects of disaster management.
