News: Holding joint naval exercises with Russia, Iran this week, says China

 

What's in the news?

       China’s Defence Ministry has announced that Naval forces from China, Iran and Russia - all countries at varying degrees of odds with the United States are staging joint drills in the Gulf of Oman.

 

Security Bond Exercise:

       “Security Bond” was inaugurated by China, Russia and Iran in 2019.

       2023 is the third edition of the joint naval maneuver "Security Bond-2023" in the Gulf of Oman.

 

Key takeaways:

       The Chinese Navy participates with the guided missile destroyer Nanning.

       The exercise will help deepen practical cooperation between the participating countries’ navies and inject positive energy into regional peace and stability.

Gulf of Oman:

       The Gulf of Oman also known as Gulf of Makran connects the Arabian Sea with the Strait of Hormuz, which then runs to the Persian Gulf.

       It borders Iran and Pakistan on the north, Oman on the south, and the United Arab Emirates on the west.

       The Gulf of Oman offers the only entrance from the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean into the Persian Gulf.
