The Union Minister
of Youth Affairs and Sports has launched the Retired Sportsperson Empowerment
Training (RESET) Programme to empower retired sports persons.

About RESET Programme
- The RESET Programme is designed to
assist retired sportspersons; acknowledging their contributions to the
nation and helping them transition into new career paths.
- By providing the necessary knowledge and
skills, the programme aims to enhance their employability and integration
into various professional fields.
Objectives and Benefits
- Career
Development: The RESET Programme offers training and
support to retired athletes, and helps them to develop new skills relevant
to diverse careers.
- Knowledge
Transfer: The initiative will encourage retired
athletes to share their experiences with younger athletes, promoting the
growth of sports in India.
- National
Sports Ecosystem: By integrating retired athletes into the
sports ecosystem, the RESET Programme aims to enhance the overall quality
of sports training and development in India.
Eligibility and Structure
- The programme targets athletes aged between 20
and 50 years who have competed at international or national levels.
- This includes those who have won
international medals or participated in events recognized by national
sports federations or the Indian Olympic Association.
- Educational
Qualification Levels:
- Class
12th and above Advanced training modules.
- Class
11th and below Basic training modules.
- The
RESET Programme will be conducted in a hybrid format:
- Self-Paced
Learning: Available through a dedicated online
portal.
- On-Ground
Training: Includes hands-on experience through
internships and practical training.
- Internship
Opportunities:
- Participants will have the chance to work
with sports organisations, training camps, and leagues.
- This real-world experience is designed to
enhance their skills and improve their employment prospects.
Implementation and Support
- The Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical
Education (LNIPE) will lead the pilot phase of the RESET Programme.
- Additional
Support: Upon successful completion of the course,
participants will receive:
- Placement
Assistance: Help in finding suitable job
opportunities.
- Guidance
for Entrepreneurial Ventures: Support for those interested in
starting their businesses.
The RESET Programme
is a thoughtful and strategic initiative aimed at harnessing the experience of
retired athletes for broader societal benefits. Providing career development
support and facilitating knowledge transfer, not only honours the contributions
of retired sports persons but also strengthens India's sports ecosystem.
