News: The Prime Minister chaired the 44th PRAGATI (Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation) meeting on August 28, 2024.

Key Highlights of the Meeting

  • The meeting focused on seven key projects, including road connectivity, rail infrastructure, and initiatives in the coal, power, and water sectors.
  • The PM highlighted that project delays lead to increased costs and deny the public the benefits intended for these projects.
  • The PM advocated for the “Ek Ped Maa ke Naam” campaign to plant trees as part of project development, to balance development with environmental sustainability.
  • The PM urged continued efforts in the Mission Amrit Sarovar program, which involves the creation and maintenance of water bodies like ponds and lakes.

 

About PRAGATI

  • It was launched by the Prime Minister in 2015.
  • It is an innovative platform that aims towards establishing good governance practices among various stakeholders, by combining Digital data management, video conferencing and geo-spatial technology.
  • It allows citizens to raise their concerns and issues directly with the government.
  • It monitors key government programs to ensure that they are implemented to schedule and targets accomplished.
  • Three-Tier System:
      • Prime Minister's Office (PMO) – Monitor complete process
      • Union Government Secretaries - Manage specific departments
      • Chief Secretary of States - Take care of all state-level concerns
  • The Prime Minister holds a PRAGATI meeting every fourth Wednesday at 3:30 PM.
  • The platform combines databases from multiple sources including CPGRAMS (grievances), Project Monitoring Group (PMG) and Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation.

 

Significance of PRAGATI

  • Since it is an IT-based project, it is easy to monitor the status of various projects under PRAGATI in real time which will improve transparency and enhance processes.
  • Promoting accountability in the implementation of projects, PRAGATI involves officials from both centres and states along with using real-time data to make sure every stakeholder did their job.
  • Effective grievance redressal by offering a systematic approach to managing and resolving public complaints.
