News: Mobile phones, photography banned in Kedarnath Temple

       Devotees have been banned from taking photographs and making videos on the premises of the Kedarnath Temple.

       The move comes after a recent video of a woman blogger proposing to her boyfriend in front of the temple went viral.

       Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee has put up boards on the temple premises which read, "do not enter the temple premises with mobile phones; any kind of photography and videography is strictly prohibited inside the temple and you are under the surveillance of CCTV cameras".

       The temple has also asked the people to wear "decent clothes".

 

Kedarnath Temple:

       Kedarnath Temple is a Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva.

       It is located in Uttarakhand on the Garhwal Himalayan range near the Mandakini River.

       The Kedarnath Temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.

       Kedarnath forms one of the four sites of the Char Dham Pilgrimage.

       Standing magnificently at an altitude of 3,580mts offers scenic beauty.

       Lord Shiva in his Sadashiva form is worshipped as a conical rock formation inside the temple.

       The Temple is built adjacent to the site of an earlier temple believed to have been built by the Pandavas.

 

Chardham Pilgrimage:

       The Char Dham means the four dhams is a set of four pilgrimage sites such as Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath which is very auspicious in the Hindu belief.

       Yamunotri – This Shrine is dedicated to River Yamuna.

       Gangotri – This shrine is dedicated to goddess Ganges.

       Kedarnath – This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva in the form of Kedar.

       Badrinath – This temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu in the form of Badrinath.

       In the Hindu sect, it is believed that a person visiting all the four sites will attain Moksha (Salvation).

       The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is responsible for the Chardham Project.
