       The Prime Minister is scheduled to lead the International Day of Yoga at the United Nations before flying to Washington DC for the core of his state visit.

 

International Day of Yoga 2023:

       International Yoga Day is celebrated annually on June 21.

       The history of International Yoga Day dates back to September 2014 when India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, proposed the idea during his address to the United Nations General Assembly.

       He emphasized the importance of yoga as a holistic approach to health and well-being and suggested that June 21 should be declared as International Yoga Day.

       His proposal received overwhelming support from the UN member states, leading to the adoption of June 21 as International Yoga Day by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2014.
