IN THE NEWS?
The Union Home Ministry designated Hizb-ut-Tahrir
(HuT) as a terrorist organization under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention)
Act (UAPA) on Thursday. The ministry stated that HuT is involved in
terror-related activities, including radicalizing youths to join terrorist
groups and raising funds for terrorism, which poses a significant threat to
India's national security and sovereignty.

Hizb-ut-Tahrir
banned under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for
radicalizing youth and promoting terrorism.

Procedure
for Banning an Organization Under UAPA:

Recommendation: MHA recommends the ban based on
intelligence and security threats.
·
Evidence Review: The Government of India reviews evidence
before the ban.
·
Official Notification: Ban is declared
via notification in the Official Gazette.
·
Tribunal Formation: A Tribunal under a High Court
judge is set up within 30 days to review the ban.
·
Tribunal Decision: The Tribunal confirms or rejects
the ban within six months.
·
Appeal: The banned organization can appeal the
Tribunal's decision in higher courts.
·
Penalties: Post-ban, association with the group is
prosecuted under UAPA, with punishments including life imprisonment or death.
