News: Hepatitis A outbreak claims one more life in Vengoor panchayat

 

What's in the news?

       Recently, the death toll following the Hepatitis A outbreak in Vengoor panchayat near Perumbavoor rose to four, with the death of 27-year-old Anjana Chandran at a private hospital in Kochi.

 

Hepatitis A:

       Hepatitis A is a viral infection that affects the liver.

 

Transmission:

       It is transmitted primarily through the consumption of contaminated water or food that has been contaminated with the feces of an infected person.

 

Vulnerability:

       Poor sanitation and hygiene practices, such as inadequate handwashing after using the toilet, can contribute to the spread of the virus.

 

Vaccine:

       Recently, Hyderabad-based Indian Immunologicals Ltd (IIL) has launched India's first indigenously developed Hepatitis A vaccine Havisure.
