Recently, the faces of
some protestors in the wrestling protest were deep faked.
What is a deep fake?
●
A
deepfake is an artificial image or video (a series of images) generated by a
special kind of machine learning called “deep” learning.
●
One of the most notorious
applications of the technology is deep fakes, where synthetic media is used to
swap the face or voice of one person for another.
Origin:
●
The term deep fake originated
in 2017, when an anonymous Reddit user called himself “Deepfakes.”
●
In India there is no law
or regulation to combat the issue of deep fakeness.
●
The Personal Data
Protection Bill (2022), if passed, could provide some protection against the
misuse of personal data, but it does not explicitly address deepfakes.
