News: Coast Guard decommissions 2 of its hovercrafts in Kutch

 

What's in the news?

       The Indian Coast Guard decommissioned two of its hovercrafts at a formal ceremony held at Jakhau in Kutch.

       At the ceremony, presided over by Anil Kumar Harbola – commandant of Coast Guard’s northwest command – hovercrafts ACV 184 and ACV 185 were decommissioned.

 

Indian Coast Guard:

       It is an armed force that protects India's maritime interests and enforces maritime law, with jurisdiction over the territorial waters of India, including its contiguous zone and exclusive economic zone.

       It was formally established in 1978 by the Coast Guard Act, 1978 as an independent Armed force of India.

 

Nodal Ministry:

       It operates under the Ministry of Defence.

 

Administration:

       The organization is headed by the Director General Indian Coast Guard (DGICG).

 

Headquarters:

       Coast Guard Headquarters (CGHQ) is located at New Delhi.
