NEWS: Over 10 lakh seniors enrol in Ayushman Vay Vandana

WHAT’S IN THE NEWS?

Ayushman Vay Vandana Card: A healthcare scheme launched in 2024-25 for citizens aged 70+ offering ₹5 lakh annual health coverage per family, implemented by the Ministry of Health.

Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY: A flagship scheme providing ₹5 lakh annual health insurance for economically vulnerable families, based on SECC 2011 data.

Ayushman Vay Vandana Card :

Overview:

·         Launched as an extension of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY).

·         Announced in the Union Budget 2024-25.

Objective:

·         To provide free healthcare services to senior citizens aged 70 years and above, ensuring their health and well-being irrespective of income or economic background.

Coverage:

·         Offers an annual healthcare benefit of up to ₹5 lakh per family.

Eligibility:

·         Open to all Indian citizens aged 70 years or older.

·         No income or socio-economic criteria for eligibility.

Implementation:

·         Scheme is managed by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Progress:

·         Within three weeks of the launch, over 10 lakh senior citizens enrolled.

·         Women account for approximately 4 lakh of these enrollments.

 

 

 

 

Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY)

Overview:

·         Flagship health insurance scheme under the Ayushman Bharat initiative.

·         Launched in 2018 to provide affordable healthcare to economically vulnerable sections.

Coverage:

·         Provides an annual health insurance benefit of ₹5 lakh per family for secondary and tertiary care.

Features:

·         Ensures cashless and paperless access to healthcare services.

·         Beneficiaries can avail services at the point of care without out-of-pocket expenses.

Eligibility:

·         Beneficiary households are identified based on the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) 2011.

·         Includes deprivation and occupational criteria for rural and urban areas.

Objective:

·         To reduce financial burden due to medical expenses and improve healthcare access for the underprivileged.
