WHAT’S IN THE NEWS?

The Union Minister for Electronics & Information Technology launched several AI-driven initiatives under the IndiaAI Mission to strengthen India’s AI ecosystem. Key initiatives include the AIKosha platform, AI Compute Portal, and AI Competency Framework for public sector officials, aimed at fostering AI innovation and research.

 

AI-Driven Initiatives Under the IndiaAI Mission

  • Launch of IndiaAI Mission:
  • The IndiaAI Mission was launched in March 2024 as a comprehensive initiative to promote artificial intelligence (AI) research, development, and innovation in India.
  • The mission follows a 5-year public-private partnership model and is implemented by the IndiaAI Independent Business Division under the Digital India Corporation.
  • Key Initiatives Launched:
  • AIKosha (IndiaAI Datasets Platform):
      • A secure AI repository designed to facilitate AI innovation by providing access to 300+ datasets and 80+ AI models.
      • The platform includes a wide range of datasets from various sources, such as:
        • 2011 Census data, satellite imagery captured by Indian satellites, health data, meteorological and pollution data.
        • Open Governance Data platform data.
      • AI Sandbox Environment: The platform also includes an integrated development environment (IDE) with tools, tutorials, and a sandbox environment for AI experimentation.
  • IndiaAI Compute Portal:
      • Provides discounted AI compute, network, storage, and cloud services to startups, MSMEs, researchers, students, and government agencies.
      • Offers up to 40% subsidy on cloud AI compute services.
      • Supports high-end GPUs like NVIDIA H100, H200, A100, AMD MI300x, Intel Gaudi 2, and AWS Tranium, enabling scalable AI research and development.
  • AI Competency Framework for Public Sector Officials:
      • Aimed at equipping government officials with essential AI skills and knowledge to leverage AI tools effectively in governance and public administration.
  • iGOT-AI: Personalized AI Learning:
      • A personalized content recommendation system integrated with the iGOT Karmayogi platform, designed for government officials to enhance their AI capabilities.
  • IndiaAI Startup Financing:
      • The IndiaAI Startups Global Acceleration Program is launched in collaboration with STATION F and HEC Paris, providing a four-month accelerator program to help AI startups scale their operations globally.
  • IndiaAI Innovation Centre (IAIC):
      • This initiative is focused on supporting Indian researchers, startups, and entrepreneurs in building foundational AI models, such as Large Language Models (LLMs), Supervised Learning Models (SLMs), and Multimodal Models (LMMs).
  • Objectives and Goals of the IndiaAI Mission:
  • Strengthen public-private partnerships to accelerate AI research and development in the country.
  • Support high-performance AI computing with the deployment of over 10,000 GPUs.
  • Establish AI supercomputing facilities like AIRAWAT at C-DAC in Pune to boost computational capabilities for AI research.
  • Ensure the development of ethical AI practices, transparency in data usage, and accessibility of AI technologies to all sectors of society.
  • Collaboration and Future Plans:
  • The IndiaAI Mission will promote collaboration among government agencies, researchers, industry leaders, and startups, helping to build a robust AI ecosystem.
  • Over the next five years, the mission will support various initiatives to advance AI technology and increase India’s global leadership in AI research and innovation.
