Assam exported its first international
consignment of Purabi Ice Cream to Bhutan, opening new avenues for value-added dairy exports from the North Eastern Region.
2. Purabi Ice Cream:
i.
Manufactured by West Assam Milk Producers' Cooperative Union Limited (WAMUL).
ii.
Produced using milk procured through Purabi Dairy's cooperative network of dairy
farmers across Assam.
3. Role of APEDA:
i.
The Agricultural
and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) supported
the export by facilitating export documentation, regulatory compliance, market
access, stakeholder coordination.
ii.
It plays a key role in regional export promotion by
facilitating exports of agricultural and processed food products from the North Eastern Region through compliance
with international standards and
improved access to global markets.
4. Gateway to International Markets:
Bhutan's
geographical proximity provides a natural advantage for expanding Made-in-Assam
dairy exports to neighbouring countries.
5. Economic Benefits:
i.
Strengthen the international presence of
dairy products from the North Eastern Region.
ii.
Create sustainable export opportunities
for the dairy industry.
iii.
Enhance income prospects for thousands of
dairy farmers associated with Assam's cooperative milk network.
