News: Cabinet approves “PM-eBus Sewa” for
augmenting city bus operations

in the news?
●       The
Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved a bus
scheme “PM-eBus Sewa” for augmenting city bus operation by 10,000 e-buses on
PPP model.  
PM
e-Bus Sewa scheme:
●       The
“PM-eBus Sewa” scheme aims to bolster urban bus operations by introducing 10,000 electric buses on a PPP model. 
Financial
Allocation:
●       The
Scheme would have an estimated cost of Rs.57,613 crore, out of which support of
Rs.20,000 crore will be provided by the
Central government. 
Nodal
Ministry: Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
Duration: 
●       The
scheme will support bus operations for a duration of 10 years.
Implementation
Segments:
The Scheme has two segments:
Operation
Responsibility: 
●       States
or cities will be responsible for running the e-bus services and making
payments to the bus operators.
Significance:
●       It
seeks to enhance public transportation, promote e-mobility, and generate
employment opportunities.
