Guardian of the Blue Horizon

Current relevance:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred the Presidential Distinction – "Guardian of the Blue Horizon" by the President of Seychelles.

 

Highlights:

1.         “Guardian of the Blue Horizon” is the highest Presidential distinction of Seychelles. First time this distinguished honour has been bestowed.

2.       Awarded for his contributions to:      

(i)     Green leadership

(ii)   Promotion of the Blue Economy

(iii) Climate action

(iv) Sustainable management of ocean resources

(v)  Support for Small Island Developing States (SIDS)

(vi) Advancing the interests of developing countries

3.       PM Modi dedicated the honour to all nations committed to environmental conservation and combating climate change.

4.       The honour coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles.

5.       It recognizes India's role as a trusted partner in:

(i)     Capacity building

(ii)   Sustainable development

(iii) Environmental protection

(iv) Cooperation in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR)

1.         The honour acknowledges Prime Minister's dedicated efforts towards environmental conservation and a greener planet. It includes:

(i)     International Solar Alliance (ISA)

(ii)   Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment)

(iii) Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam (plant for mother)

(iv) International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA)
